Man facing charges after drugs found in vehicle

A Cranberry man is facing charges after he was found in possession of drugs in a vehicle Sunday afternoon on Van Road.

Franklin state police said in a criminal complaint that at about 1:45 p.m. Sunday, they observed David Scott Reed, 33, in the passenger’s seat of a vehicle slumped over toward the driver’s seat.

When a trooper looked through the windshield of the vehicle, he noticed a glass smoking pipe on the passenger’s seat, so he opened the passenger door and retrieved the pipe, at which point Reed woke up, the complaint said.

The trooper placed Reed under arrest and found a small plastic bag containing white powder in an interior pocket of Reed’s jacket, the complaint said.

After obtaining a search warrant, police found marijuana, marijuana wax, methamphetamine, heroin, pills, and drug paraphernalia as well as an expandable baton in the center console, the complaint said.

Reed has been charged with three felony counts of manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, misdemeanor counts of DUI-controlled substance, use/possession of drug paraphernalia and make repairs/sell/ etc. offensive weapon, and a summary count of driving while blood alcohol content .02 or greater with a suspended license.

Reed was arraigned Monday and placed in the Venango County jail with bail denied due to the fact he is on parole.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 16 in Central Court.
