Local Artists to be Awarded for Outstanding Work

Wednesday, July 24, marked the grand opening of the 2019 Oil Heritage Festival Art Show. Many gathered to get a first look at some of the incredible artwork currently displayed.

The pieces are being exhibited at three different show locations this year: 42 Seneca St (photography), the National Transit Building (adult artwork), and the National Transit Building Annex (young adult and children artwork). Here you will be able to find art of all mediums created by people of all ages and experience levels.

Visitors to the exhibits can choose the People’s Choice awards by casting a vote on a personal favorite in each of the three buildings. The creation with the most votes is declared the winner.

Visitors also may have the opportunity to buy a piece of art from the exhibits. If and when a price is listed next to the title and artist name, it is available for purchase. Purchasing artwork is a great way to support your local artists.

All entries are to be judged by the end of the week. Ribbons will be on display during the Saturday and Sunday show hours. A first, second, and third place are to be awarded in each of the categories under adult amateur, adult professional, young adult, and children. The participants could have entered a maximum of three pieces in any of the following categories: watercolors and oil pastels, oils and acrylics, three-dimensional arts, graphics and mixed media, fiber arts, or photography. A Best in Show, awarded by the judges, and People’s Choice award will also be announced.

The show is to last through Sunday, July 28, and is open to the public from 12-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 12-4 p.m. Sunday.

Support all of the local artists and the Oil City Arts Council by stopping by one of these shows. Dedicating some of your time is a great way to show support and appreciation for all Oil Heritage artists, staff, and volunteers.
