Franklin Fourth of July Week festivities underway

From staff reports

Franklin’s Fourth of July Festivities Week is moving into full swing, and Monday’s highlight was the popular pet show at Bandstand Park sponsored by the Venango County Humane Society.

Tails were wagging, and many furry friends were dressed to impress at the show. There were 20-25 four-legged participants that included large and small dogs, cats and other beloved pets.

Pets earned winning ribbons for categories such as best costume, best trick, most unique breed of pet, most unique markings, most matching to their owner (twinning), and youngest and eldest animals.

Some of the various events scheduled to take place during the rest of Franklin’s celebration, which will culminate with the annual fireworks show — Thunder Over Franklin — to be launched at dusk on Monday, will include:

Today: Tammi Dahl, Nathaniel Licht and Rachael Mellor in concert at 7 p.m., Bandstand Park.

Wednesday: Taste of Talent vocal competition kickoff, 7 p.m., Bandstand Park.

Thursday: Franklin Silver Cornet Band-Mostly Marches, 7:30 p.m., Bandstand Park.
