Commission accepting applications for block grants

From staff reports

Applications are now being accepted for the 2022 round of the Northwest Commission’s Greenways Block Grant Program for eligible projects within the Northwest Pennsylvania Greenways Region of Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Forest, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango and Warren counties.

The intent of this program is to implement the greenway recommendations contained in the Northwest Pennsylvania Greenways Plan and the individual eight county plans as well as advancing the recreation, conservation and heritage initiatives throughout the region.

The program leverages grant funds through its partnership with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Department of Environmental Protection.

This method of incorporating cooperative consideration and funding by the public agencies of joint projects will implement the Northwest Pennsylvania’s Greenways Plan and meet DCNR and DEP’s statewide and regional goals and priorities.

Applications must be signed and received at the Northwest Commission office in Oil City by 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1.

Proposed projects must be completed by October 2024.
