COPY EDITOR Derrick Publishing Company is seeking a freelance copy editor to work as an independent contractor. Knowledge of proper grammar and spelling is a must, along with familiarity of local, national and international news. Duties include computer-generated layout of news pages through Adobe InDesign, proofreading, and ensuring news stories and photos are posted to our website, www.TheDerrick.com. In addition, the independent contractor would be trained in securing information from public safety sources, including police and fire departments, and writing the information as news reports. The independent contractor also would process local obituaries, which arrive via email, for publication. The shifts would be a guaranteed minimum of two days a week with varying hours. The number of shifts per week increase to cover for full-time staff members who are either off or on vacation.
