Valley Grove board approves roof repair contract

Valley Grove School Board on Monday awarded a contract for roof repairs at Rocky Grove High School.

Homan Specialty Roofing of Oil City submitted a bid of $21,750 for the work.

Superintendent Kevin Briggs told board members at Monday’s meeting they could either “approve (the quote) and start moving with (the roof repairs) or table it until May.”

The board unanimously approved moving ahead with the project.

In other business at Monday’s meeting, parent Darcy Henderson requested that the district hire a full-time athletic trainer because it would be beneficial for students’ safety and would help monitor or prevent injuries.

In another matter, school board member Cindy Swendsen was recognized for her 11 years of service on the Intermediate Unit board and her 35 years of teaching at the IU.

The board also learned that Valley Grove Elementary teacher Timothy Hart is retiring after 22 years.

“I wish him well,” Swendsen said as the board approved Hart’s retirement.

Briggs mentioned in his report at the end of the meeting that the district is looking to interview people for custodian, pre-school teacher, elementary school teacher, paraprofessional, and French teacher positions.

High school principal Kelly Hart also noted the Venango Area Chamber of Commerce program VenangoREADY is being considered at the high school.

VenangoREADY prepares students for the workforce. The chamber partners with local school districts on the program.

The board approved a three-year BusBoss software support renewal agreement from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2025, for $12,625.50.

And the panel also gave its OK to three course pre-approval requests — classroom management, action research, and inclusive classroom practices.
