Swim lessons offered in Oil City

Swim lessons will be offered this fall at the Oil City High School swimming pool.  Learn-to-swim classes will be held for elementary and middle school students twice a week for five weeks, beginning Monday, Oct. 9, and continuing through Wednesday, Nov. 8.  The classes are also open to the public.

Lessons will be 30 minutes long and will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Here is a schedule of the classes:
Monday-Wednesday
Beginner — 4 to 4:30 p.m., shallow end
Advanced Beginner — 4:35 to 5:05 p.m., shallow end
Novice — 5:10 to 5:40 p.m., deep end
Private lessons available — 5:15 to 6 p.m.

Registration for the classes will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the high school gym lobby.  Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.  There will be a maximum of 15 students in each class.

Cost is $30 to participate.  Families with more than one student enrolled will receive discounted prices.  Checks for the classes should be made payable to Oil City Area School District.  Payment is due at the time of registration.

No registration will be accepted by telephone.  Class size permitting, email registration will be accepted after Wednesday by contacting Marla McVay, aquatic director, at mmcvay@mail.ocasd.org.

The instructor to student ratio for the shallow end is one to four and the instructor to student ratio for the deep end is one to seven.  A child must be at least 45 inches in height and of school age, kindergarten age 5, to enroll.  There are no pre-school classes available.  Proof of kindergarten attendance may be required.
