St. Stephen rectory coming down

Work began Tuesday on the demolition of the former St. Stephen rectory on Reed Street. The offices for St. Joseph Parish, which encompasses St. Joseph and St. Stephen churches, had been housed at the rectory but were moved awhile ago to St. Joseph. The former St. Benedictine Sisters convent on Reed Street was remodeled in the 1970s to become the new rectory for St. Stephen Church after the residence beside the church that the church had purchased and used for several decades as a rectory was razed in early 1973. The property was then converted to a parking area for churchgoers. (By Kara O’Neil)
