A section of Route 322 between Bredinsburg and Deep Hollow roads in Cranberry Township was closed for several hours early Friday morning after rocks and other debris fell from the hillside and blocked both lanes of traffic.
A detour on Bredinsburg Road was set up at about 2 a.m., and Route 322 was reopened shortly before 7 a.m., Venango County 911 said.
The rock slide covered both lanes of Route 322 all the way to the guardrail near the entrance to the bike trail, said PennDOT public relations officer Jill Harry.
Seneca fire police who responded to the scene said a few of the rocks that fell were the size of vehicles.
The fire police added that a vehicle collided with some of the rocks but no one was injured.
PennDOT received a call about the blockage at about 1:30 a.m. and had the area cleaned up by about 6 a.m., Harry said.
Harry said PennDOT cleans the debris out of the right of way along the road in that area every year as part of routine maintenance. She added that the hillside itself is privately owned.
Franklin state police, PennDOT and Seneca Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.
