Scholarship fund set up in OC teacher’s memory

From staff reports

Bridge Builders Community Foundations and the family of Oil City teacher Jessica Marie Stephens, who died earlier this year, have announced the formation of the Jessica Marie Stephens memorial scholarship.

The scholarship will start next year and will benefit local students who are pursuing higher education.

Stephens was a teacher at Oil City Middle School. She died after a brief battle with cancer.

She was the wife of Chris Stephens, mother of Gavin and Evanleigh Stephens and daughter of Sally Albright.

“My wife was a passionate educator,” Chris Stephens said. “She loved her students.”

Chris Stephens said a friend of the family put him in touch with Bridge Builders to set up the scholarship fund, which Chris said has already received donations.

Chris Stephens said a golf outing to benefit the scholarship fund will be held at 9 a.m. June 29 at River Ridge Golf Course.

A 5K race and various other fundraising events are being planned as well.
