Program on opioid crisis to be held Thursday in Titusville

A program on the opioid crisis titled “Raising Campus and Community Awareness on the Opioid Crisis” will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in Boomer’s Caf at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville.

The featured speaker is Linda Rose Frank. Frank is a professor of public health, medicine and nursing, the director of the MPH program and is the principal investigator/executive director of the MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center.

The purpose of this program is to enable rural primary care clinicians to gain familiarity with substance use and intervention strategies.

The program is open to nurses, nursing students, drug treatment professionals and community members.

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

— Discuss the current epidemiology of substance use in northwest PA

— Discuss substance use and misuse disorders

— Discuss infectious diseases related to substance use including HIV, Hepatitis C

— Discuss available prevention and treatment strategies

— Discuss implications for health professionals, families, community members, and local organizations.
