A group of seven students from Oil City Middle School competed in a regional contest in a program titled “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing” and earned a spot to compete at the state level.
The “OCmsn” (Oil City Middle School News) team consists of four eighth grade students, twin sisters Mackenzie and Makayla Canaan, Sarah Fox and Olivia Vorse, and three seventh graders, Carley Ames, Memphis Hulver and Shalyn Whittemore.
These students worked together to tell the story about manufacturing in the community by producing a video. The Oil City team was paired with Matric Group for the competition.
The students had to follow strict industry standards and video production rules to complete a video of two minutes and 30 seconds in length.
There were 16 regional contests. Oil City Middle School is part of the Northwest Forest Oil Region.
The Viewer’s Choice was determined by online voting by the public. There were a total of 7,763 votes cast in the region, with Oil City receiving 4,348 of those votes.
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all students involved were robbed of attending the awards ceremony at Clarion University so a virtual awards ceremony was held using YouTube.
The state competition award ceremony will be held the same way, via YouTube, from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 9.
