Tamarack Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center will hold an open house Sunday. The DukeFest team distributes checks to area rescues and groups.

Fall craft fair is Saturday

Precious Paws Animal Rescue in Franklin will hold its fall craft fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Rocky Grove fire hall, 29 Shuffstall St., Franklin. The fair will feature more than 50 vendors, baked goods, food, raffle baskets, a 50-50 drawing, a pet photographer and more.

A rabies and microchip clinic will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Shots cost $10 each.
Those who take a bag of dog or cat food, cat litter, a cleaning product or makes a donation will receive a ticket for a chance to win a door prize.

Proceeds from the fair benefit the Precious Paws Animal Rescue, the Oscar Fund and the Spay Neuter Your Pet program.

The fall craft fair is the rescue’s biggest event for the year and the donations it receives are crucial for the help PPAR can give to the county.

Precious Paws is an animal rescue incorporated as a nonprofit in 2001. It is a tax exempt 501(c)3 charity with a Guidestar platinum charity rating.

Its mission is to foster and adopted homeless animals into forever homes, alleviate the suffering of animals and provide low-cost spay/neuter services to the community. Precious Paws operates the weekly Spay Neuter Your Pet (SNYP) clinic in Franklin, as well as provide adoption services, an animal assistance fund, a pet food bank and provide straw and housing for pets in need.

Crafty PUPS

Clarion PUPS will be participating in the Farmers and Crafters Day during Clarion’s Autumn Leaf Festival.

The rescue will be located at R James Smathers Insurance Agency on the corner of Fourth and Main streets, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6. The rescue will be selling homemade baked goods, crafts and more.

Wildlife center open house

Tamarack Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center in Saegertown will hold its open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1.

The center is located at 21601 Stull Road, Saegertown.

The center also posted good news about a juvenile bald eagle brought to the center from Erie County. The eagle was being treated for lead poisoning.

“He is flying beautifully in our eagle aviary after completing his chelation therapy. We are thrilled that he is regaining stamina well, with no sign of permanent damage, and expect him to be ready for release in the coming weeks, if all goes well,” the center posted on its Facebook page.

DukeFest funds presented

The funds raised by the annual DukeFest event were distributed to various rescue and response groups.

“Congratulations and Thank you to the DukeFest rescue and response groups for all they do in the name of animal care, rescue, adoption and love,” said a post on the DukeFest Facebook page. “Each group received a cute ‘bone check’ made by Pam Bottomley for $2,017 … plus an additional $33 each from donations came in after the event.”

“Thank you to our wonderful communities for the support and love that you have given DukeFest this year to make this possible for the rescue groups to continue the save the lives of so many abandoned, neglected, abused and stray animals,” the team posted.

A little rough around the edges

Clarion PAWS in Shippenville has Dude available for adoption.

“Dude is quite the handsome man. He found his way to us. One day he was hanging out in the PAWS backyard,” the rescue posted on its Facebook page. “So we brought him in, got him tested, neutered and vaccinated. He is very sweet but does not like dogs. He does great with other cats. He just has a rough look that tells the story of his previous life.”

Clarion PAWS is located at 11348 Route 322, Shippenville, Clarion River Hill, between Scrap Happy and Clarion Electric. The adoption center is open from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays (just not this Saturday). The center is closed Fridays and Sundays.

Venango County Humane Society in Seneca has lively terrier mix Lola available for adoption.

Lola is a 2-year-old spayed female. She has a black and white coat and dark eyes.
She’s leash trained and house trained.

“Lola is a blithe spirit, rarely holding the same pose for more than a second. She’ll be an entertaining, fun loving companion. Her exercise needs can be met with a long walk on leash, a vigorous play session, or a chance to explore off leash in a fenced-in area,” the shelter said in a PetFinder listing.

The shelter’s hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

It is closed Sundays and holidays.

Tri-County Animal Rescue Center in Shippenville as Siberian Husky mix Sidney available for adoption.

She is 4 years old.

She came to the rescue as a surrender when her owner had to go on bed rest and felt they could not meet her needs, the center said in a post on its website.

“Sidney enjoys playing with toys in the yard and knows several basic commands. She is house trained, spayed and up to date on all shots,” the post continued.

Cat clinic scheduled

Hog Heaven Rescue Farm in Cochranton has scheduled a low-cost cat clinic at its location on Thursday, Oct. 12.

The cost is $65 and includes the exam, injectable pain meds, spay/neuter, rabies vaccine, ear mite treatment and nail trim. There is an additional charge of $5 for females for an e-collar.
